Job Overview

The Industrial / Electrical Segment within the Industrial Solutions Business Unit of TE Connectivity has a full-time opportunity for the position of a Product Engineer. This will be supporting the Identification - Labels product line portfolio.

The Product Engineer will be primarily responsible for the sustaining engineering and development of platform extensions of existing product lines, new product platforms, rapid prototyping and custom designs; consistent with manufacturing capability and cost focus. The desired candidate will possess and apply knowledge of Product Engineering principles, practices and procedures. This will include manufacturing technologies such as flexo printing, screen printing, digital printing, hot stamping and variety of label cutting processes. The role will involve working in multi-functional teams.

Responsibilities:

  • Represent Engineering on multi-functional project teams consisting of Sales, Product Management, Project Management, Operations, Quality, Supply Chain and Outside Suppliers.
  • Design and development of Label products to meet performance specification and fitness for manufacture; especially in relation to custom products. Encompassing printing, material and environmental requirements.
  • Work on Product Optimization and Cost Improvement to reduce cost and improve product competitiveness.
  • Evaluate manufacturing deviation requests and make decisions on deviation acceptance.
  • Manage tool transfer and First Article approvals.
  • Create and manage all supporting technical documentation; including drawings, specifications, inspection plans, reports etc
  • Coordinate with test laboratories on product validation and qualification testing.
  • Facilitate Agency Approval activities with Product Approvals personnel.
  • Evaluate and implement material changes including polymers, inks, liners, varnishes etc.
  • Use of TE’s Engineering Change control procedures.
  • Complete First Article Approvals and Process Capability Studies.
  • Support Configuration Management requirements.
  • Engage with suppliers, customers and sales on product applications, technical queries, quality concerns etc.
  • What your background should look like:

  • University Engineering degree or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated experience in Engineering assignments; 6-8 years expected.
  • Experienced user of Engineering tools such as DFMEA, Tolerance analysis.
  • Good knowledge of Labels Design and Labels manufacturing processes.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong design/development and analytical skills.
  • Ability to challenge technical solutions and processes.
  • Able to work with multicultural engineering teams.
  • Ideal candidate is proactive, resilient and self-confident.
  • Fluent in French (if Grenoble based) and English language and documentation skills. 
  • Proficient in 2D design software and Label design packages.
  • Flexibility in working day and travelling.
  • Knowledge of basic Quality standards and processes.
  • Understanding of UL and other Regulatory Standards preferable.
  • Experienced in using Microsoft Office.
