Description of the job

A vacancy for an Industrial Architect - Future Engine Integration has arisen within Airbus in Toulouse.

The Industrial Architect organization is enlarging the size and breadth of capability in the field of future engine and powerplant integration. The growth is to ensure we are prepared for the next generation of airplanes in terms of product design for manufacture and assembly, industrial technology readiness and return on sales.

The powerplant integration perimeter includes the complete under-wing system; from wing to pylon interface, pylon, engine mounts, engine, nacelle and aircraft to powerplant systems.

DPPE is a new and growing team with exciting opportunities to define the future industrial architecture of powerplant systems on next generation aircraft. We do this through systematically developing the industrial lifecycle from co-design of the product itself through to sourcing policy, elementary part manufacture, sub-assembly, powerplant podding, installation at FAL level and product services in the aftermarket.

There are several live projects which need support from the growing DPPE industrial Architects team. This include a new project to develop an end to end industrial system for the next generation of Ultra High Bypass Ratio powerplants for the next generation of airplanes.

The scope and opportunity within our team is vast and we are looking for candidates with manufacturing engineering experience within the powerplant domain and with a natural confidence to challenge established norms and seek new and innovative solutions. We will also consider applications from design engineers with a sound awareness of manufacturing and assembly process involved.

Tasks & accountabilities

Your main tasks and responsibilities will include:
* Working with other colleagues from Industrial and Engineering departments to define the build concept and industrial architecture for end to end powerplant value chain.
* This activity needs to embrace all the latest intelligence on future factory, automation and lean line design to ensure the most competitive industrial architecture baseline
* Undertaking trade studies on various industrial and product design scenarios to make data driven recommendations to senior level stakeholders in support of future powerplant industrial system investment
* Collating information in a structured way to demonstrate compliance to project and industrial requirements.
* Supporting other powerplant projects as they arise within the DPPE team and working with increasing autonomy as your experience and knowledge develops.

This role will require from time to time travel for short business trips and as such you must be able to travel accordingly.

Required skills

We are looking for candidates with the following skills and experience:
* Educated to degree level (or equivalent) in Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or Production Operations or a related discipline.
* Manufacturing Engineering process knowledge for composites and/or hard metal manufacture
* Experience of assembly operations
* Experience of the engine, nacelle or pylon design attributes
* Experience of the shop floor environment
* Experience of the design office environment
* Manufacturing engineering
* Systems Engineering approach to problem solving
* Ability to influence
* Language Skills - negotiation level of English is required. French is an advantage.
